- this guy is just incredible. the first time i saw these pictures, i thought it was some sort of photoshop wizardry. but this is the real deal.
- early bird: a memoir of premature retirement. rodney rothman’s hilarious account of moving into a retirement community in florida to experience retirement. as a 29 year old.
- the KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic Archive. A couple years worth of live performances on one of the best daily music programs around. Everyone from Badly Drawn Boy to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to Ben Harper to Erin McKeown. I’ve spent days going back and listening to them.
- for the third year in a row, the sox will keep me sleep deprived for the month of october. go sox!
- i’ve never seen anyone get as excited about a dustbuster as susanne is. she’s dustbusting the entire house. not that i’m complaining.
- finally getting some interest in our place. hopefully we can get things wrapped up this week so we can start thinking about moving junk.
- i can’t believe i haven’t mentioned this before, but the greatest train-wreck of a reality tv show is breaking bonaduce. you HAVE to watch this. you just can’t look away.
- golf with dickie on sunday. i can’t believe it’s the first time we’ve played all year, and only the second time i’ve played all year.
- i’m always a little shocked when i’m able to fix anything on my car. even something as simple as new wiper blades. of course, it’s not as wasy as it sounds. for my car, you don’t replace the blades; just the rubber inserts. well of course, there are metal pieces that hold them in place, and you have to remove the old ones, and figure out how exactly to get the new ones in, and of course one of them is too long so you have to cut it, but you don’t really have anything to cut something like that, so you borrow some clippers from somebody, and you destroy the clippers while trying to do it. but in the end, success! at this point, i’m happy when i’m able to fill up my gas tank without breaking anything.
- so what do you do when your last plastic fork breaks and your plastic knife breaks and you have a big sticky sweet barbeque chicken leg just taunting you? you go old school, pick up that leg, dive in face first, and hope that you finish it and wipe yourself clean before anyone comes into your office. that’s some good BBQ.
- we’ve become total hippies and started bringing our own canvas grocery bag to russo’s. it’s amazing how many of those plastic bags are spared by using one canvas bag. sure we care about the environment and all, but it’s just much easier to carry and our house is no longer being overrun by mountains of plastic grocery bags.

- susie’s birthday weekend. lots of fun gifts, lots of good eating, and lots of good times.
- sel de la terre is really our favorite birthday restaurant, and really one of our favorite restaurants in the entire city. great food, a nice room, reasonable prices, and the best bread and frites in the city. we got a little creative with the ordering this time by ordering all starters. no entrees. ever notice how much more interesting and exciting appetizers are than entrees? small plates, big concentrated flavors, lots of variety. it makes for a much more fun and interesting meal. by the way, let’s get back to the frites. these are the most perfect, hot and crispy, golden brown, herb dusted, salty and addictive french fries you’ve ever tasted. we could go there and just order about 5 orders of these.
- a visit from the charbonneaus, complete with carvel cake.
- a visit to another of our favorite places, oleana. and for once, we were able to enjoy our entrees after not completely stuffing ourselves on the bread and pret a manger. yes, i know this is completely opposite of what i was just saying, but oleana is a place where you want to experience as much of the menu as possible. just completely unique ingredents and spices that you can’t find anywhere else.
- the all new gordonwrightmusic.com. hopefully we’ll get lots of good london stories and some great tunes. rock.
- the fine folks at jomashop.com. if you’re in the market for some nice stuff, this place is excellent.
- i’m in one of those modes where everything i touch breaks. after over 3 years of faithful service, my ipod broke this weekend. it’s so sad. i guess i need to get a new one now. which one should i get? one of the new nano’s, or do i buy a refurbished mini’s? i also broke the toilet this morning. oh, and i my car is making a weird smell. and the turn signal is out.
- please, somebody rent our place. we don’t feel like paying rent along with a mortgage come november.
- susanne’s big birthday along with the signing of our purchse and sale and paying of the deposit makes last friday the most expensive day of my life.
- i like gifts for other people that i get to enjoy too. jon and carolyn’s zingerman’s gift box was a great one.

- yes, it was quite a whirlwind of a week. and yes, we apparently bought a house in belmont last week.
- the fine folks over at jackson home inspection. so informative and professional. if you need to get your home inspected, give them a call.
- you should all be setting your alarms for friday to wish susanne a happy birthday. although she celebrates it for about 2 weeks, so you can start now. i believe the over/under for number of carvel cakes is currently set at 2.
- did you knwo that rather than ripping out all of that ugly tile and tub, you can actually refinish it for a fraction of the cost? bye bye pink and maroon and black tile and beige tub. show me white!
- we saw two great documentaries this weekend. march of the penguins is really as good as everyone says it is. how they filmed this stuff just boggles my mind. incredibly beautifully shot, a great story, and no, i didn’t cry at all. the other one is rock school. no, this isn’t that jack black movie from last year (which was excellent, by the way). it’s the true story of the paul green school of rock music. a really cool story, funny, poignant, and inspiring. check it out.
- lunch with dickie and harriet at the super88 food court and a tour of belmont.
- dinner with pattti on wednesday night. she put on a fine showing, even though the propane ran out before we got to grill anything. that’s ok. cast iron grill pan to the rescue! see, it’s not so scary cooking for us.
- the announcement of the first annual oslerwurst ‘05. i’ll be bringing my leiderhosen.
- since when did monday night become the big night for tv? i have 4 shows that i watch or want to check out, all on monday. fox moved arrested development to mondays, along with the new kitchen confidential (based on one of my favorite books). if that wasn’t enough, my new favorite show, prison break follows that. but supposedly, CBS’s how i met your mother is supposed to be excellent. so many shows, but only one tivo! a ha! luckily, there will be a new free addition to the family this week. and his name is tivo. holy crap. when did i get to be such a tv geek? oh right. back when i was about 5. never mind.
- i was watching onDemand last week while riding the bike, and came across a spin doctors documentary about their new album and tour. they were my first concert ever, and they rocked. man, they’re old and sucky now. didn’t the lead singer lose his voice or something? it should have stayed lost. and the guitar player just looks like a herion addict. and the drummer put on about 40 pounds. and the bass player looks exactly the same. i always liked him. he rules.

- ok, this is going to be a *very* busy day, so this will be a quick one.
- who else figures on a nice relaxing sunday afternoon, decide to swing by an open house just for the hell of it, decide that they really like the place, and realize that they have no broker and no idea what to do next? within a couple of minutes, they find a broker, look at the house again, and put in an offer? um, that would be us. we’re such dummies.
- while pulling up to see the house, i accidentally hit the curb and got a flat tire. who should come offer to help but the owner of the house. um, ok. off to a great start.
- to start my weekend, i did some research on a recent ebay purchase that had yet to arrive after 3 weeks. I became a little concerned when the guy didn’t respond to my emails and he was no longer a registered user after over 15,000 transactions. A little google search answered all of my questions. the frigging guy’s store had been raided and he was indicted for selling of stolen goods. apparently he was part of this huge theft ring where people would steal goods from stores and then sell it on ebay. My payment cleared on august 24th, the same day he was arrested. of all the dumb luck. a day earlier, and i would be shaving with a brand new stolen shaver.
- check out ok go’s “a million ways” dance. hilarious and really impressive.
- dinner with tom and kathy.
- gmaps is a very cool way to see where my site visitors are coming from.
- if my ipod ever dies (not that i’m wishing that), i want one of these.
- for everyone out there, you have 11 days to get ready for susanne’s big birthday. i won’t tell you how old she’ll be, but it starts with a three and ends with an oh.
- when you take a whole boned leg of lamb, rub it with fresh thyme and rosemary, stick slivers of garlic into it, marinate it in lemon and olive oil, and then slow roast it on a rotisserie so that all of the juices just envelop the meat while it turns a crispy golden brown, it’s tastes pretty damn good.

- a weekend in falmouth with the whole family celebrating my mom’s big six-oh. i’m pretty sure this is the first time the entire family has slept under the same roof in about 10 years. and there have been some new additions to the family since then.
- if anyone’s looking for a great photographer, i highly recommend nicki pardo. she did a fantastic job with some family photos, and was just unbelieveably good working with my 19 month old nephew. she even encouraged him to throw rocks at her. now that’s dedication.
- my favorite new show of the fall season so far is prison break. a little unbelieveable, you have to suspend belief a bit, but just totally entertaining and it sucked me in immediately. it’s about a guy whose brother is on death row for a crime he didn’t commit, so in order to save him, he get’s himself arrested for a bank robbery so that he can get into the same prison and help him escape. the one thing he has going for him is the fact that he designed the prison. um, i’m guessing that can come in handy. should be an interesting season.
- the before and after satellite photos of new orleans. just unbelieveable.
- i finally found a helmet that fits my odd-shaped melon.
- we hit the minuteman bike trail this weekend. it’s amazing how this whole other world of bikers exists that we never really noticed. we look around now and bikers are everywhere. they used to just be an annoyance and i really only noticed them when they were in my way while driving. now, i guess i’m part of the problem. oh well. it was crazy seeing hundreds of people riding on this trail that we never even knew existed and is all of 5 minutes from our house. but don’t worry. i’ll never become one of those crazy bikers. and i will never, ever wear spandex bike shorts.
- we ended up staying in and grilling lobsters for my mom’s bday dinner, but originally we were going to go to bleu in mashpee. we decided to check it out for lunch just for the hell of it, and it was mighty tasty. we’ll have to make it back there at some point for dinner.
- the lobsters from falmouth fish market died a quick and painless death at the hands of a very sharp chef’s knife. although one of them put up a pretty good fight.
- is there anything better for a summer dessert than smores? nope.
