- a full week of vacation at home. no place to go and nothing to do.
- christmas with the charbonneaus. eat, drink, be merry, and then eat again, and drink again.
- thanks to jon for our sauce labels. soon appearing at a store near you! well, maybe someday.
- a visit with steve, lisa, and hudson. he’s got my hair!
- i got lots of nice gifts.
- my new fancy-dancy soho spice rack. this thing is too cool. i have to take some pictures.
- jamie’s dinners. i think we have all of the jamie oliver cookbooks except for one of them. we’ll have to work on that. some people hate him, but i just dig the way he cooks and the stuff that he does. he has my dream job.
- speaking of brits, i can now look like one in the kitchen.
- we got a foot of snow dumped on us. so what are we going to do today? well, make ice cream, of course! sweet scoops, we’re coming after you…
- everything in my house and the charbonneau’s house is razor sharp thanks to the Spyderco 204 Tri-Angle Sharpmaker. straight knives, serrated knives, electric knives, scissors, vegetable peppers, tweezers, you name it. anyone need anything sharpened?
- the year end best of list is coming up next week. stay tuned.

- we are done with xmas shopping and wrapping. all that’s left to do is open gifts, eat turkey, and drink some booze!
- we finally got new cell phones. and thanks to verizon, they were free. and they have cameras on them. so you know what’s coming next…
- yes, a new feature appears below. i now have the ability to send pictures directly from my phone to this webpage. flickr makes this nice and easy to do. so get ready for lots of pictures of what i’m eating. and i promise not to send any pictures of my poops.
- and speaking of keeping up to date on this page, for all of you using RSS (which you all should, dummies), you can get various formats of feeds of this page, so you’ll always know when something new shows up. if you click on the feedburner link below, you can get it.
- we made our first ever attempt at canning over the weekend. some very lucky folks will be receiving the first jars of susanne’s homemade tomato sauce. and this stuff is gooooooood. but nothing blew up, and hopefully, we won’t kill anyone with tainted sauce. i’m sure there’ll be more to come.
- the WA holiday party. not nearly as embarrassingly out of control as last year.
- dickie survived his first ever surgery. his torn rotator cuff was fixed by the pats’ team doc. so he was in good hands.
- our first visit to craigie street bistrot. such a nice little neighborhood place, and they do things very well. the menu changes every day based on what’s good at the market, so there’s always some really interesting stuff, although the choices are limited. and since when did a terrine of the livers of guinea hen, squab, and chicken start sounding really good to us? it may not sound appetizing, but man does it taste good. we also had a salad of winter greens, the roast chicken, and the monkfish, and a fruit crisp and a selection of sorbets for dessert. because i know how much everyone likes to hear about our meals. and i’m also not sure why there’s a “t” in “bistrot”.

- the 2nd annual carpenter chrismukkah! tree! featuring the star of david tree topper. the tree-trimming party on saturday night was a success.
- ocean’s 12. as good as ocean’s 11? i don’t know. they are very different movies, but it was extremely enjoyable. i highly recommend it. although my experience was somewhat sullied by the fact that the guy sitting in front of me had the biggest head ever. it was gartantuan. he also had huge hair, and he didn’t slouch down at all. so there was a giant mass of head and hair directly in my view the entire time. so i watched the entire movie leaning on my side with my head out in the middle of the aisle.
- i ordered a knife sharpener last week based on the LA Times review (registration required). i hate having to send my knives out for sharpening, so it’d be nice to have a sharpener that gets professional quality results. I’ll let you know how it works out.
- alan richan, fork it over: the intrepid adventures of a professional eater. richman is one of my favorite food writers, and this is a collection of some of his best stuff. he’s the food writer for GQ, so i’ve read a good number of the articles already. But they’re worth a re-read. He’s not nearly as crazy as jeffrey steingarten, but that man sure can eat.
- we now own our very own menorah. it’s quite nice.
- ramsay’s kitchen nightmares. i don’t know how the brits make such entertaining and compelling food shows, but this is another winner. gordon ramsay is a famous chef in London, incredibly successful, incredibly talented, and famous for being a maniacal tyrant. this show brings him into struggling, pathetic restaurants and shows him trying to turn it around in a week. it’s brilliant.
- the osler’s now have their own webpage.
- the return of blood orange season. i don’t know what our weird fascination with blood oranges is, but i think it started on the flight home from italy when they served us blood orange juice the entire flight home. now that is some good stuff.
- the return of the pizzookie!!

- my weekend as a swinging bachelor while susanne was out of town. ok, so i was never really very swinging, and it was sort of lonely in an empty apartment. ok, so it wasn’t really that fun,but i managed to finish most of my xmas shopping. yes, i’ve already wrapped gifts. don’t hate me.
- fooled by april downstairs at the middle east.
- gordon was also a single man this weekend. so we together basked in our freedom. well not really, but that sounds more manly than “hung out and cooked and drank beers and talked about junk.”
- the new season of significant others. for those of you who have never seen this show before, add it to your season passes right now. it’s one of the funniest shows on tv right now.
- hanging out with the boys at beerworks.
- a visit from dan and dinner at dok bua (they have a fancy new website with pictures of all the food).
- and yes, all of the pictures on this site are taken by me (or susanne) with the exception of the sox victory picture. i unfortunately wasn’t in st. louis for it.
- ok, it seems like everyone else knows now, so yes, i’m looking for a new career. who’s got ideas?
- i finally got firefox and thunderbird working at the office. for everyone still using IE and Outlook, make the switch now. you won’t go back.
- getting our bonus earlier than expected.
