- a 2 day workweek
- thanksgiving with the charbonneaus. just like xmas, but without the gifts! and i didn’t gloat about the red sox once.
- a long weekend in nyc. i should day, a long weekend of eating in nyc.
- frank. this is the sort of place we crave on those cold and rainy nights when we want someplace warm and comforting. and we had a perfect night for it. not to mention that the black pasta was as good as i remembered.
- we are now on a first name basis with the employees of hogs & heifers
- the glory of a warm H&H everything bagel
- the pizza from sullivan street bakery. this isn’t your everyday normal sort of nyc slice joint. this is true roman-style pizza, with the closest thing to the pizza bianca at forno in campo di fiore. we tried the bianca, one with zucchini, gruyere, and breadcrumbs, a fennel, parm, and breadcrumb, and a muchroom. my favorite was the fennel, but then again, i’m a fennel freak. look for this one on the next carpenter pizza menu.
- babbo. this is probably the one restaurant that i’ve been wanting to go to for years, and we finally made it over there. who says you need reservations to get in here? just walk in and wait for a table at the bar. a very cool and small place that’s just bursting with energy. and the food? pretty much everything i hoped it would be. grilled octopus, mint “love letters” with spicy lamb sausage, wild striped bass with cockles and baby squid, and a grilled guinea hen with five lilies. the guinea hen was the big winner of the night. such incredible flavor from that bird. we need to find a place to buy it around us for cheap. i guess we can check another restaurant off of our list.
- we love our vietnamese food and we eat it all the time. but no place is as good as saigon grill. just fresher than anyplace around here, they’re always busy, and always good.
- a trip to nyc wouldn’t be complete without a visit to ‘ino, our favorite panini joint, and one of our favorite restaurants period, anywhere. it’s everything that we love about a place, great inexpensive food, friendly people, a cozy room, and they even take credit cards now.
- probably our favorite cheap restaurant of all time, where certain things on the menu cost $0.95, panna 2 is also our favorite indian restaurant anywhere. i think there’s even more crap hanging from the the ceiling now, it’s more packed than ever, but we still love it. and the total bill for two is never more than $15.
- an emergency stop at baja in CT.
- yes, we really ate this much this weekend.
- another trim of the mop. although this one didn’t cost me $50.
- the sox are SI’s sportsmen of the year

- badly drawn boy friday night at avalon. his shows never cease to impress me, and this was no exception. despite the very early show time and small early turnout, he played a great and entertaining show. and for him, the two and a half hour show was a short one.
- u2, how to dismantle an atomic bomb
- “working” from home while my car was getting worked on. hopefully, this is that last i’ll have to do with my car for a long time now. and if you live anywhere near watertown and need work done on your car, go see ishkan.
- i got my first ever migraine this weekend. what the hell is wrong with my head?
- in a new level of craziness, we cured our own salmon this week. and it came out gooooooooood. and to be honest, it was in credibly easy to do, if you don’t mind having a brick in your fridge for a few days. this is one we’ll definitely be doing again.
- susanne’s new cool glasses. now she can go out in public with them!
- having “homework” for the first time in about 7 years.
- sunday lunch in hingham
- this is probably my favorite cheese in the world right now. we can’t stop buying it.

- a week full of vertigo! well, at the very least, i got to catch up on my tivo, including lots of episodes of family guy.
- i mean really. there are still leaves on the trees. and it snowed 4 inches on friday and saturday. what’s wrong with this place? i really really really really need to move someplace warm. and yes, i say that every year.
- i think i found a good, inexpensive mechanic. i’ll know for sure after this week, but his estimate was about 1/3 of what the dealer quoted.
- i don’t think the excitement of going into a toys-r-us ever gets old.
- backgammon! this game is just completely addictive. fun to play, easy to pick up, and a great way to kill hours of time.
- saturday night dinner at east ocean city. nothing beats going to chinatown with a whole bunch of people, ordering a whole mess of dishes, ordering a whole bunch of tsing tao’s, and having a whole lot of fun.
- my new $5 winter hat

- a visit to matt murphy’s in brookline village. god, i love this place. it doesn’t get more irish than this, with good drinks, great food, and a whole lot of brogues.you can’t help but feel all happy and cozy in this place, and if you’re looking for the best guiness and fish and chips and shepherd’s pie around, this is the place.
- our anniversary/susanne’s bday dinner at upstairs on the square.
- bertucci’s sent us yet another gift card for $5 off our next 6 purchases. so we’ve used it to go in and “buy” 3 pizza doughs for free. but now since we’ve found a great dough recipe to make at home, what to do with the bertucci’s doughs? form it into a flat loaf, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt, and bake fresh bread for a kickass sandwich.
- and to continue our carb-loving weekend, we made butternut squash, ricotta, parm, and sage ravioli and caramellas on saturday. yes, this is what we consider a fun saturday afternoon.
- a week of season premiers on fox. , the north shore, and arrested development.
- and speaking of the O.C., music from the O.C. Mix 2 is another winner. and it sounds an awful lot like the garden state soundtrack. not that this is a bad thing.
- for the first time in about 6 months, my Check Engine light is finally off. hopefully, it stays that way.
- we’ve been cooking a bunch of stuff from jamie’s kitchen this past week. some people can’t stand him, but he’s the man.
- and after many, many attempts, we’ve mastered the roast chicken. it’s turned into a sunday night staple, and we’ve tried a bunch of different methods, but we finally found one that works perfectly. and yes, i like to truss my bird.
- and to raise our level of snobbiness/sophistication/cooking just a little higher, we used the chicken livers that are stuffed into the chicken when you buy it to make a chicken liver pate. and it was goooooood. all buttery chickeny goodness.
- you may think that you’ve seen some red livestrong bracelets around town recently. but they’re actually red sox nation wristbands.

- the red sox win the world series. did i ever think i’d see it? sure. did i think it would happen like this? no way. i think after getting engaged and getting married, this is pretty much near the top of the all-time top ten list. and am i disappointed that the curse is over and that we’ve lost our identity as losers? um, no.
- i can finally get some sleep now. 3 weeks of playoff baseball does a job on your normal sleep patterns.
- sideways. highly recommended, even if you’re not a wine snob.
- you’d never really expect to see an ice luge at a party held at the cambridge historical society.
- leftover halloween candy. sometimes, a stomach ache is just worth it. and speaking of halloween, i was really disappointed to see that there weren’t more kids dressed up as johnny damon. i gave the over/under at 5. we only got 1.
- tomorrow is election day. vote early and often.
- do you know how hard it is to find kitchen twine? doesn’t anyone truss their birds anymore?
- we took in our deck furniture and covered up the grill over the weekend. the summer is officially over.
- the O.C. returns this week. rejoice!
- cleaning day has officially moved to sunday.
- all of my batteries have been dying. in the past week, i’ve replaced both my cell phone battery and my ipod battery. yes, you can replace your ipod battery for cheap. thank you ebay!
- “hi susanne………and pete…….it’s aly…….and matt….”
