- susanne’s birthday week. yes, she got a full week. but only 2 carvel cakes.
- lumiere. god i love this place. i think this is my third time here, and i haven’t had a bad experience yet. a great chef-owned bistro where you always see the chef working the pass, and his wife greeting you at the door. plus perfectly executed dishes. and the door handles are all over-sized spoons and there are scrabble tiles for the bathroom signs.
- the new england mobile bookfair. this place is insane. and rows and rows of cookbooks.
- the balthazar cookbook. our first attempt to cook out of it was a success. although we could have done without the ton of butter in the recipe. i think i’ve had my fill of butter for the month.
- the garden state soundtrack. a really good soundtrack for a rainy day or a depressed college kid.
- the huron village street fair. featuring food, music, and pet-owner lookalike contest, and pony rides!
- what’s better than toll house cookies? this is one of my first memories cooking with my mom as a little kid. and yes i got to lick the bowl.
- the sox taking 2 of 3 from the yanks. bring on the playoffs!
- US Weekly. the gift that keeps on giving. it’s just pure trashy reading, which is why it’s so good.
- friday’s mexican fiesta. grilled fish and grilled chicken tacos, grilled caramelized onion and monterrey jack quesadillas, grilled avacado, grilled corn, and tomato salad, and black beans and rice with cilantro pesto. and we’ve been eating the leftovers all weekend. not that i mind.
- the brady brady brady weekend on tvland. i could have sat and watched all 48 hours of it. ok, i probably watched a couple of hours of it. they’re just as good as ever.
- uh oh, i think we got sucked into another season of the bachelor
- so you wanna be a rock and roll star. wow, being a rock star sure sounds sucky.
- great chefs of the world. before the food network ever existed, this was the cooking show that i loved to watch. no fancy-smancy production or annoying hosts. just really talented chefs showing how to make a dish.

- holy crap, where the hell did the fall come from?
- speaking of falling, we still believe, um, i think.
- this week is the birthday of a very special some one. and yes, she likes to celebrate it for an entire week. and spend the majority of it eating frites and carvel cake. and it’s thursday, so don’t foget to wish her a happy birthday.
- i installed a digital programmable thermostat last week. and it worked on the first try. so now before we wake up in the morning the heat will jakc up to about 97 degrees and then go down to 42 during the day.
- madden 2005
- brunch at the nightingale
- yeah, i know i haven’t taken new pictures in a while. maybe this week.
- i found a book of my essays from 5th grade at home. i wrote that the person i’d most want to have dinner with was larry bird. i think if i wrote that essay today, the answer would be the same.
- we watched the series premier of jack & bobby last night. it seems promising. we’ll see what happens.
- the thrills, let’s bottle bohemia
- boston globe magazine’s 54 best dishes. i haven’t counted how many of them i’ve had yet, but it’s probably more than a few.
- i’m very happy that arrested development won the emmy for best comedy. now maybe it’ll last one more season

- ladies and gentlemen, after 5 months, i finally got a haircut. and it’s a good one. i feel like a new man. and my first-ever salon experience was quite nice. did i mention the head massage? pictures to come soon…
- “is that your husband out there? he looks nervous”
- emma’s on friday night. so we go in before trying to see a movie at kendall, and the place is packed. there’s about an hour wait, and we were thinking about giving up. but then the guy taking names looked really familiar. turns out that hw was a guy who i used to go to camp with, and he had just bought the place 2 months earlier. very cool.
- garden state
- saturday night dinner at chez henri. it’s nice to know people in the restaurant business. and for some reason, in the past year, we’ve come to know a whole lot of them
- a valiant recovery from a near disaster with our chicken under a brick on the grill. after putting the chicken on and leaving it alone for the requisite 10 minutes, i come back to the find the entire grill on fire. oops. i guess i wasn’t supposed to close the lid yet. so after tossing off the bricks and reaching in and saving the bird, and putting out the fire, we had to regroup. was the chicken salvagable? was it charred beyond recognition? after some delicate surgery removing the outer layer of char, into the oven it went. and damn, that turned out to be a tasty bird. success!
- the wonder years. this was my favorite show back in junior high and high school. it pretty much tracked my life through those years, so for some reason, it always struck home. i mean, the bar mitzvah episode was even aired the same week as mine. so it’s back in syndication on abc family, and it’s been added to our tivo season passes. and let me tell you, i think i almost appreciate it more now than i did back then. it’s just such a well written and well thought out show. oh, and if you’re wondering what ever happened to the guy who played Paul Pfeiffer, here he is.
- yes, back to back references to abc family. fooled by april somehow got themselves hooked up with the network, and they’re using their song in their promos. it’s on all the time now. here’s one of them
- brit cooking shows on dicovery home. i don’t know what it is about them, but those brits know how to make some fun shows. friends for dinner and the best are the two latest that i’ve discovered
- i’ve somehow gotten addicted to mentos

- three, i mean, four day weekends
- taking friday off to play golf with dickie. my second time out this year. i shot an 88.
- jon and carolyn’s bday dinner at blue ginger. and for the first time in the 7 times i’ve been there, ming was actually there. and man, were people embarrassing, throwing themselves all over him and busting out their video cameras and getting pictures taken with him and getting autographs. he’s a chef people. tell him to get back in the kitchen.
- carolyn’s new pigface molcajete
- finally meeting mike’s new woman at the b-side
- finally finding good chinese food close to home at zoe’s
- god i love tomato season.
- i’m getting my hair cut this weekend. don’t worry, it’s just a trim. it will be my first “real” haircut even. meaning it will cost more than $13.
- carolyn’s reaction to having her hair straightened. although jon’s reaction may have been even better
- is it playoff time yet?
- the royal tennenbaums. this movie was on FX all weekend. this movie is crazy and brilliant
- before sunset. if you’ve seen the early 90’s movie before sunrise, you have to see this. it’s good.
- by the way, the capitol theater in arlington is a very cool place to see a movie. and old school theater. and matinees are $4.50.
