Best of 2003

  • best meal (foreign): marinated seafood salad, grilled giant squid, pasta with seafood, el guarancino, positano, italy
  • best meal (domestic): tosca, hingham, MA. extra courses upon extra courses. i mean, 3 dessert courses for crissakes!
  • best new addition to the boston (ok, stoneham) brunch scene: baja fresh
  • best pizza (foreign): the shrimp, arugula, and cherry tomato pizza at le tre sorelle, positano, italy
  • best pizza (domestic): (tie) the shaved bottarga and fennel seed pizza at Otto, NYC. and the cheese pizza, well-done, at pizzeria regina, north end, boston
  • best sandwich: olive tapenade, tomato, arugula, goat cheese, pressed, at 94 fayerweather
  • best bread: sel de la terre baguettes
  • easiest way to blow tons of cash on cheese: formaggio kitchen
  • best gelatto (foreign): nutella gelatto, positano, italy
  • best gelatto (domestic): olive oil and sea salt gelatto at Otto, NYC
  • best thai food ever: dok bua
  • best party: (tie) our wedding, drew and kate’s wedding
  • best album: coldplay, rush of blood to the head
  • best movie: lost in translation
  • best book: (tie) everybody poops, the gas we pass
  • best tv show: the OC
  • best reality tv show: newlyweds
  • best way to have a really busy year: getting engaged, moving, and getting married within a 9 month span
  • trend of the year: lots and lots and lots and lots of weddings. please make them stop
  • best diet: proscuitto, cheese, nutella and bread for breakfast, walk around for an hour, pizza for lunch, walk around for another hour, nap for 3 hours, wake up, eat pasta and seafood for dinner. and drink a lot of wine.

  • christmas at the charbonneau’s.
  • central kitchen. especially the fact that at the bottom of the menu, the chef/owner appologizes for the increase in prices.
  • the cooler
  • we’re not addicted to tivo. yet. although i wake up in the middle of the night, see the red light on, and wonder what it’s recording.
  • cha-cha-cha-chia!
  • after-christmas sales
  • food disappointments of the week: both dok bua and nashoba brook bakery were closed when we tried to go there. shouldn’t some one call us to warn us of these things? we’re just not destined to ever eat the curry chicken salad sandwich again.
  • jon’s annual italian feast
  • susanne’s realization that all of the carpenter boys, and every 20-30 year old man who grew up in the boston area have a strange obsession with larry bird
  • finally figuring out my email problems.
  • my new cookbooks: babbo, a signed happy days, and boy meets grill
